South Netherlands, Wednesday, 4 September 2024.
CrossRoads, a subsidy program fostering collaboration between SMEs in Flanders and South Netherlands, has announced its third call for grant applications. From August 26 to October 4, companies can submit proposals for innovative projects addressing societal challenges, with a focus on sustainable entrepreneurship, renewable energy, Industry 4.0, and health.

Supporting Innovation and Cross-Border Collaboration

CrossRoads aims to stimulate cross-border cooperation by providing financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with groundbreaking ideas. This initiative encourages businesses to work together across the border, combining resources and expertise to tackle pressing societal issues. The program’s objective is to foster innovative solutions that can lead to sustainable development in various sectors.

Application Details and Criteria

Interested companies in Flanders and the South Netherlands can submit their grant applications until October 4, 2024. Each collaborative project must include at least one Flemish SME and one South Netherlands-based SME. The grant covers up to 50% of project costs, with a maximum subsidy of €250,000 per project. The total budget for this call will be announced by the end of June 2024[1].

Evaluation and Selection Process

After the submission deadline, the applications will be assessed based on predefined criteria. Projects will be evaluated on their potential impact, innovation, feasibility, and the quality of cross-border cooperation. Only the top proposals will receive funding, ensuring that the most promising and impactful projects are supported. This rigorous selection process ensures that the funds are allocated to initiatives that can make a significant difference[1].

Infosession and Support

To assist potential applicants, CrossRoads organized an online information session on June 21, 2024. Experts from VLAIO and InnovationQuarter provided insights into the application process, eligibility criteria, and the types of projects that are likely to receive funding. Yves Boonen from Plinius Labs shared his experience with the CrossRoads program, offering practical advice on how to navigate the application process successfully[1].

Encouraging Sustainable Development

The focus areas for this call include sustainable entrepreneurship, renewable energy, Industry 4.0, and health. CrossRoads aims to address societal transitions by supporting projects that promote sustainability and innovation. The program is backed by various regional and European entities, including the European Union, Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland, and several provincial governments from both Belgium and the Netherlands[1].

Implications for Regional Development

By fostering cross-border collaboration, CrossRoads not only supports individual businesses but also contributes to the overall economic development of the region. The program aims to create a more integrated and innovative economic landscape in Flanders and the South Netherlands. This initiative is expected to drive growth, create jobs, and enhance the region’s competitiveness on a global scale[1].
