Siemens Unveils AI Tools to Boost Green Hydrogen Production Efficiency
Amsterdam, Tuesday, 2 July 2024.
Siemens introduces three innovative AI tools aimed at accelerating green hydrogen production. The Hydrogen Plant Configurator, Comos AI, and SFC Generation are set to revolutionize the design and automation of hydrogen plants, making production smarter and more efficient. Available from late 2024, these tools mark a significant step towards meeting industrial sustainability goals.
Innovative AI Tools
The Hydrogen Plant Configurator, one of the newly introduced tools, employs generative AI to create installation designs for hydrogen production. This tool predicts key data such as power consumption and heat production, streamlining the entire setup process. By providing precise and efficient designs, it ensures optimal energy use and minimizes wastage, which is crucial for the sustainability of hydrogen projects.
Comprehensive AI Engineering
The Comos AI Engineering Assistant further supports this efficiency by generating equipment specifications and diagrams based on natural language descriptions. This cross-domain engineering tool enhances workflows and facilitates seamless communication between different engineering disciplines. By reducing the time and effort required to produce detailed engineering plans, Comos AI helps in accelerating project timelines and reducing costs.
Automation with SFC Generation
SFC Generation, another tool in Siemens’ AI arsenal, automates processes within hydrogen plants by creating sequential function charts using generative AI. This automation reduces the need for manual intervention, enhancing the reliability and safety of hydrogen production operations. By leveraging AI to handle complex process sequences, Siemens aims to significantly reduce the operational risks and improve the overall efficiency of green hydrogen production.
Aiming for Sustainability
Siemens’ commitment to green hydrogen is evident in its various projects and initiatives. One notable project is the construction of a large-scale green hydrogen production plant for Shell in Rotterdam. This project underscores Siemens’ dedication to increasing hydrogen production capacity to meet global sustainability goals. Additionally, Siemens Nederland is forming a new industry team focused on hydrogen production, further emphasizing its strategic focus on this crucial energy transition technology.
Strategic Partnerships and Global Impact
Siemens’ efforts are not limited to Europe. The company is also involved in the development of an 8.8 MW green hydrogen plant in Bavaria, Germany. This facility, which began construction last week, aims to produce up to 1,350 tonnes of hydrogen annually, potentially saving up to 13,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Such projects highlight Siemens’ global impact and its role in advancing green hydrogen as a viable solution for decarbonizing industries.
Future Prospects
Looking ahead, Siemens continues to push the boundaries of hydrogen technology. The company’s involvement in the HYFLEXPOWER consortium, which successfully demonstrated the operation of a gas turbine running on 100% hydrogen, showcases the potential for hydrogen to power not just industrial processes but also power generation facilities. This aligns with Siemens’ broader goal of transforming conventional power systems and driving the energy transition towards a more sustainable future.
