Aquatech Amsterdam 2025 Highlights Dutch Innovation in Water Technology

Amsterdam, Friday, 21 March 2025.
Aquatech Amsterdam 2025 attracted over 23 countries and 200 delegation members, showcasing Dutch leadership in sustainable water solutions and facilitating global collaborations.
Groundbreaking Innovation in Water Treatment
The event’s highlight was the announcement of Aurea, developed by Royal HaskoningDHV in collaboration with Wageningen University, which won the Overall Winner of the Aquatech Innovation Award 2025 [1]. This revolutionary technology combines biological activated carbon filtration with oxidative treatment to sustainably remove micro-pollutants from wastewater, demonstrating the Netherlands’ continued leadership in water innovation solutions [1].
Global Participation and Technology Exchange
The four-day event, held from March 11-14, 2025, attracted over 20,000 water professionals and featured more than 800 exhibitors [2]. The Dutch Pavilion in Hall 12 served as a central hub for international delegations, facilitating valuable knowledge exchange between ministers, municipalities, and operators from across the globe [3]. The event’s international scope was further enhanced by the AquaMatch 2025 program, which enabled continued online networking until March 31, 2025 [4].
Addressing Critical Global Water Challenges
The timing of the event proved particularly significant as the UN Environment Programme estimates that 1.8 billion people will face absolute water scarcity by 2025 [5]. In response to these challenges, companies like Danfoss showcased energy-efficient technologies capable of producing up to 3,000 m³ of fresh water daily through containerized seawater reverse osmosis systems [5]. The LIFE Programme demonstrated several innovative solutions for protecting and improving water quality across Europe [6].
