Dutch Startup Launches Fundraiser for Lebanon's Displaced
Utrecht, Tuesday, 29 October 2024.
A Dutch company, Synthese, is organizing a fundraising event in Utrecht to support displaced communities in Lebanon. The initiative combines music and innovation, featuring performances by Palestinian Oud player Nizar Rohana and Lebanese electronic duo Snakeskin. Proceeds will aid local organizations providing essential supplies to over 1.2 million displaced people affected by recent violence.
A Blend of Cultures and Sounds
On 1 November 2024, the doors of Moira, a creative venue in Utrecht, will open to a unique blend of cultural sounds aimed at supporting a humanitarian cause. Synthese, a Dutch startup, has curated an event that brings together the haunting melodies of Palestinian Oud virtuoso Nizar Rohana and the innovative electronic rhythms of Lebanese duo Snakeskin. This fundraiser is not just a concert; it’s a poignant reminder of the power of music to unify and bring attention to pressing global issues.
Musicians with a Mission
Nizar Rohana, known for his ability to infuse traditional Oud music with contemporary influences, will take the stage at 20:00. Rohana’s music is a testament to his roots and experiences, having grown up in a musical family in ‘Isifya, near Haifa. His compositions draw from both Middle Eastern traditions and Western classical music, reflecting a journey marked by displacement and resilience. Following Rohana, at 21:00, Snakeskin will perform their latest tracks, which delve into themes of regional violence and personal hardship. The duo, consisting of Fadi Tabbal and Julia Sabra, has been applauded for their ability to blend ambient and industrial sounds, creating a moody and evocative musical experience.
Supporting Local Relief Efforts
The event’s proceeds will be directed to Tunefork Studios and the Beirut Synthesizer Center, two organizations actively engaged in relief efforts for displaced individuals in Lebanon. These organizations are crucial in providing food, mattresses, blankets, and other essential supplies to those affected by the ongoing conflict. The fundraiser operates on a ‘pay-what-you-can’ basis, encouraging attendees to contribute generously. This initiative highlights the importance of grassroots efforts in addressing humanitarian crises, emphasizing community involvement and international solidarity.
A Call to Action
As tensions remain high in Lebanon due to the recent escalation of violence, events like the Synthese fundraiser play a critical role in mobilizing resources and raising awareness. More than 1.2 million people have been displaced due to the conflict, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation. The collaboration between Dutch and Lebanese artists serves as a bridge between cultures, using creativity as a tool for advocacy and change. This event not only aims to provide immediate relief but also to inspire ongoing support and understanding across borders.
