The Hague, Wednesday, 25 September 2024.
The Dutch government launches SPRILA, a new subsidy scheme aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in the logistics sector. Starting September 24, 2024, businesses can apply for financial support to install charging points for electric commercial vehicles, with SMEs eligible for up to 40% cost reimbursement.

Aiming for a Green Future

The Dutch government’s SPRILA (Subsidieregeling Private Laadinfrastructuur bij Bedrijven) initiative aims to significantly reduce emissions by encouraging the use of electric vehicles within the logistics sector. By providing financial support for the installation of private charging points, the government hopes to make electric vehicle adoption more appealing to businesses across the nation.

Subsidy Details

Under the SPRILA scheme, SMEs can receive up to 40% reimbursement for the costs associated with purchasing and installing charging infrastructure. Larger companies are also eligible, though they will receive up to 20% reimbursement. Additionally, subsidies are available for battery storage solutions, which can be crucial when the local electricity grid faces capacity challenges.

Complementary Public Charging Initiatives

SPRILA is complemented by another subsidy scheme, SPULA (Subsidieregeling Publieke Laadinfrastructuur zwaar vervoer), which focuses on publicly accessible charging points for heavy-duty transport. This scheme, which opens for applications on October 1, 2024, offers a total of €15 million in funding, including additional subsidies for battery storage solutions. Together, SPRILA and SPULA aim to create a comprehensive and accessible charging network across the Netherlands.

The Path to Zero Emissions

The Netherlands is committed to achieving zero emissions in the transport sector by 2050. With the number of electric commercial vehicles on the rise, the need for adequate charging infrastructure becomes increasingly critical. The SPRILA and SPULA schemes are part of a broader strategy to accelerate the transition to electric logistics, supporting the installation of charging points for electric trucks, vans, and buses.

Application Process

Businesses interested in applying for SPRILA subsidies can do so from September 24, 2024, until December 31, 2024. The application process is straightforward, and financial support is available for both the acquisition of charging infrastructure and advisory services. The goal is to facilitate a smooth transition to electric vehicles, making it easier for businesses to contribute to the nation’s environmental goals.
