DOPS Recycling Secures €5 Million for Green Tech Innovations

Amsterdam, Friday, 22 August 2025.
DOPS Recycling Technologies has raised €5 million to advance its innovative DCI™ technology, turning waste into biofuels, significantly reducing CO2 emissions and supporting the circular economy in the Netherlands.
Innovative Technology in Waste Management
DOPS Recycling Technologies, based in the Netherlands, has secured a €5 million investment to further develop its proprietary DCI™ technology. This cutting-edge innovation aims to transform waste into biofuels, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and promoting a circular economy. The company’s efforts focus on converting over 90% of waste, traditionally destined for incineration or landfill, into valuable raw materials such as syngas and carbon. The process involves heating complex waste streams in an oxygen-free reactor at temperatures up to 1000 degrees Celsius, breaking down hydrocarbons into basic elements without significant CO2 emissions [1].
Strategic Partnerships and Investments
The financial boost for DOPS stems from a strategic collaboration involving the Rotterdam Energy Transition Fund, Innovation Quarter, ROM InWest, Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland, Init Power, CarbonFix, and Alphatron. This funding will be used to construct a modular unit to test the entire DCI™ system. This development is crucial for making final investment decisions regarding the establishment of the first customer-centric factory [1].
The Role of DCI™ Technology in Energy Transition
CEO Michiel Spits of DOPS Recycling Technologies highlights that their proprietary technology is pivotal in transitioning to a sustainable energy economy. By utilizing the DCI™ system, DOPS reimagines waste not as an endpoint but as the starting point for creating new, valuable materials. This approach aligns with broader goals to achieve sustainable energy transitions and build a circular economy where reuse and efficient energy consumption become standard practices [1].
Impact on Sustainability and Environmental Goals
The Netherlands annually incinerates around eight million tonnes of waste, contributing to CO2 emissions and the loss of valuable materials. DOPS’s technology offers a viable alternative by reducing waste-to-incineration rates and decreasing carbon emissions, aligning with national and international sustainability goals. The DCI™ technology can process various waste streams while remaining economically viable at low volumes, thanks to its use of refractory materials and efficient heat recovery systems [1].
