Windplan Groen Enhances Sustainability with Innovative Lighting System

Biddinghuizen, Tuesday, 18 February 2025.
Windplan Groen has officially launched. It includes an Advanced Dynamic Lighting System to deactivate nighttime warning lights, advancing renewable energy efforts in the Netherlands.
Milestone Achievement in Flevoland
Windplan Groen, located in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, marked its official launch on February 13, 2025 [1][2]. This significant renewable energy project, consisting of 90 turbines with a total capacity of approximately 500 MW [2], represents a major advancement in the Netherlands’ sustainable energy infrastructure. The completion of construction has transitioned the project into its operational phase, contributing to Flevoland’s green energy goals [1].
Advanced Lighting Innovation
A key technological innovation of the project is the implementation of the Advanced Dynamic Lighting System (ADLS), which enables the deactivation of red warning lights during nighttime hours [1][2]. This system has demonstrated remarkable efficiency, reducing light pollution by 97% [2], significantly minimizing the visual impact on surrounding communities while maintaining safety standards.
Community Benefits and Economic Impact
The project’s social impact extends beyond environmental benefits, with substantial financial contributions to local community funds. The initiative will provide annual contributions of €576,165 to Stichting Windfondsen Dronten and €356,611 to Stichting Windplan Groen Fonds [1]. These funds will support various community projects and initiatives in the region.
Future Energy Storage Integration
The project’s scope is set to expand with the addition of the Netherlands’ largest battery storage facility. Adjacent to Windplan Groen, a 31.6 MW/126.4 MWh battery installation is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025 [5]. This integration of storage capacity will enhance the wind farm’s ability to provide stable renewable energy to the grid.
