Paris, Wednesday, 17 July 2024.
Taiwan’s debut at the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad will feature a rich tapestry of traditional and modern arts. The Taiwan Pavilion will host 22 performance groups, offering 60 shows that blend opera, music, and innovative displays, showcasing the island’s cultural diversity on a global stage.

A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

The Taiwan Pavilion’s presentation at the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad is a testament to the island’s cultural richness. Focusing on both traditional and contemporary arts, the pavilion aims to highlight Taiwan’s unique heritage through a series of performances and exhibits. Central to this showcase is the traditional Taiwanese opera, with five prominent troupes - Our Theatre, Shintrun Taiwanese Opera Troupe, Rom Shing Hakka Opera Troupe, Siou-Ching Taiwanese Opera Troupe, and Ming Hwa Yuan Arts & Cultural Group - collaborating to present a modern interpretation of this historic art form.

Innovative Performances and Digital Art

In addition to traditional opera, the Taiwan Pavilion will feature the fusion band ‘A Root,’ known for blending Chinese and Western instruments. This innovative musical performance will include the sheng, yueqin, liuqin, zhongruan, piano, and cello, offering a unique auditory experience. Furthermore, the pavilion will host a digital art display featuring works from around 300 artists, including two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and video art, underscoring Taiwan’s commitment to showcasing its diverse cultural values.

Interactive and Engaging Events

Adding to the interactive nature of the pavilion, Nymphia Wind, a celebrated drag performer and winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, will host an event titled ‘Flew from Taiwan, just say hello!’ This event encourages public participation and includes an innovative performance that promises to captivate audiences. These activities are designed to engage visitors, offering them a chance to immerse themselves in Taiwan’s vibrant cultural scene.

Cultural Exchanges and Performances

The pavilion’s theme, ‘Taiwan & France,’ aims to foster cultural exchanges between the two nations. With 22 performance groups and more than 120 participants, the Taiwan Pavilion will deliver around 60 shows. These performances will cover a wide range of genres, including music, theater, and dance, providing a comprehensive view of Taiwan’s artistic landscape. This initiative not only celebrates Taiwan’s cultural confidence but also strengthens its cultural ties with France and other participating countries.

A Global Platform for Taiwanese Artists

The Cultural Olympiad at the ‘Parc de la Villette’ in northeast Paris will serve as the official venue for performances from over ten countries, including Taiwan. This global platform offers Taiwanese artists an unprecedented opportunity to showcase their talents to an international audience. By participating in this event, Taiwan aims to highlight its cultural diversity and artistic excellence, reinforcing its position on the global cultural stage.
