Paris Motor Show 2024: Microcars and Electric Vans Take Center Stage
Paris, Friday, 25 October 2024.
The 90th Paris Motor Show showcased innovative urban mobility solutions, with a focus on compact electric vehicles. Renault’s Mobilize brand introduced the Duo microcar and Bento micro-utility vehicle, while the Estafette Concept electric delivery van highlighted the shift towards efficient, sustainable urban transport.
Innovative Designs for Urban Environments
Renault’s Mobilize brand stole the spotlight with its innovative designs aimed at urban mobility. The Duo microcar, a two-seater vehicle, is a testament to compact design, measuring just over 1 meter and achieving speeds of up to 45 km/h. It boasts a range of 161 km, making it ideal for city commuting. The Bento variant, a ‘micro-utility’ vehicle, offers an impressive 868-liter trunk, providing a practical solution for urban deliveries[1].
The Estafette Concept: A Modern Tribute
Renault’s Estafette Concept electric delivery truck was another highlight, designed specifically for urban use. This model measures 3.5 meters in length and incorporates software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture, which allows for real-time maintenance updates. The design pays homage to Renault’s 1959 Estafette van, famous for optimizing loading space by placing the powertrain at the front[1].
Advancements in Electric Aviation
Beyond ground vehicles, the show also featured Aura Aero’s Integral E, a full-electric two-seater plane constructed from wood and wood-carbon. This aircraft is designed for training and travel, aligning with emissions reduction targets of 55% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Although it has not yet taken flight, preorders are already in place, indicating strong market interest[1].
Speed2Max Kart: A Leap in Sustainable Racing
The Speed2Max kart, made from 100% recycled materials, showcases the potential for sustainable racing solutions. It features a rapid recharge time of eight minutes and a battery life of up to 90 minutes, powered by either lead gel or lithium batteries. This go-kart represents 27 years of development and innovation, highlighting the industry’s shift towards eco-friendly motorsport technologies[1].
Stellantis and the Push for Electrification
Stellantis, with brands like Citroën, Peugeot, and Alfa Romeo, emphasized its commitment to electrification at the show. Notably, Citroën debuted new all-electric models like the C4 and C4 X, expanding their battery electric vehicle (BEV) offerings. CEO Carlos Tavares highlighted the company’s goal of achieving a carbon net-zero footprint by 2038, with a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 compared to 2021 levels[2].
