DOPS Secures €5 Million to Boost Waste Processing Innovation

Amsterdam, Friday, 22 August 2025.
DOPS Recycling Technologies received €5 million in funding to advance its waste processing technology, emphasizing the cooperative ecosystem’s role in supporting sustainable innovations in North Holland.
Enhancing Waste Processing Technology
This spring, DOPS Recycling Technologies, located in North Holland, received a significant boost with a €5 million investment from ROM InWest, InnovationQuarter, and private investors. This initiative highlights the importance of a collaborative and supportive ecosystem in driving sustainable innovation [1]. The funding will enable DOPS to advance its innovative technologies designed to improve waste processing efficiency significantly.
Key Investment and Technological Development
DOPS has developed Direct Carbon Immobilization (DCI) technology, which has the potential to convert challenging waste into reusable products such as syngas and activated carbon. This process ensures lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional methods [1]. The €5 million in funding will support DOPS in moving the technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 to TRL 7-8, allowing for validation on a larger scale and preparation for commercial implementation [1].
Collaborative Ecosystem Driving Innovation
The investment underscores the critical role of a well-functioning ecosystem, with support from various programs such as the Innovation Program Energy & Climate of the Province of Zuid-Holland and the GO!-NH Accelerator Program [1]. As articulated by Reynier de Monchy, investment manager at ROM InWest, collaboration among these entities is pivotal in addressing societal challenges through sustainable energy and circular economies [1].
Preparing for Commercial Implementation
DOPS’s modular approach allows for processing different waste streams per reactor, offering flexibility in its applications. With the aim to reach fossil-free industry, Robin van Beijnum, a business developer at ROM InWest, emphasizes a step-by-step scaling approach for DOPS [1]. This strategy involves developing existing technologies thoroughly before advancing scaling efforts, thus ensuring robust growth towards sustainable solutions [1].
