How the LLM Checker Works
The ‘LLM Checker’ functions as an open-source framework that benchmarks large language models (LLMs) against EU AI Act standards. It assesses AI models through 27 benchmarks, analyzing factors like ‘toxic completions of benign text’ and ‘truthfulness.’ Companies can request an evaluation through the Compl-AI site, which then ranks their AI models on a compliance leaderboard. This allows organizations to identify areas in need of improvement, thereby facilitating better alignment with legal obligations.
The Developers Behind the Innovation
LatticeFlow AI, a spin-off from ETH Zurich, spearheads this innovation. LatticeFlow’s CEO, Petar Tsankov, emphasized the critical role of the ‘LLM Checker’ in addressing the technical evidence gap in compliance. He noted the tool’s potential to alleviate the ‘scary’ and ‘uncomfortable’ uncertainty surrounding AI model deployment in Europe. Martin Vechev, a professor at ETH Zurich and director of INSAIT, also highlighted the collaborative nature of this project, inviting AI researchers, developers, and regulators to participate in its ongoing development.
