Dutch Pension Fund Invests €6.5M in Smart Bed Sensor Startup

PGGM, a Dutch pension fund, has invested €6.5 million in Momo Medical, a startup using smart bed sensors to enhance personalized care in nursing homes. The technology has reduced fall incidents by 25% and saved 4.5 hours daily in facilities with 90 residents.
Enhancing Personalized Care Through Technology
Momo Medical, based in the Netherlands, has been at the forefront of healthcare technology innovation with its BedSense App. This application utilizes smart bed sensors to monitor and enhance personalized care for nursing home residents. By providing real-time data on residents’ movements, the technology aims to prevent falls and other incidents, ensuring a safer environment for elderly patients.
Impressive Results in Dutch Nursing Homes
The implementation of these smart bed sensors has already shown significant results in 250 nursing institutions across the Netherlands, benefiting around 15,000 residents. The sensors have contributed to a 25% reduction in fall incidents and have saved approximately 4.5 hours per day in nursing homes with 90 residents. These time savings enable nursing staff to focus more on personalized care rather than routine monitoring tasks.
Investment to Address Healthcare Shortages
PGGM’s €6.5 million investment is part of a broader strategy to invest up to €100 million in innovative healthcare technologies. Maurice Klaver, Senior Investment Manager of Private Equity at PGGM, emphasized the importance of such investments, stating, ‘The healthcare sector is increasingly facing a shortage of hands, and the demand for care continues to rise due to aging.’ This investment aims to address these challenges by leveraging technology to improve care efficiency and quality.
International Expansion and Future Plans
Momo Medical is not limiting its innovations to the Dutch market. The company is expanding its operations internationally to countries including Germany, Canada, and the United States. The new funding will be used to further develop their technology and expand their market presence. Momo Medical also collaborates with academic institutions like Tilburg University and Fontys University of Applied Sciences, as well as various nursing homes, to continually improve their solutions.
