Amsterdam, Friday, 29 August 2025.
DOPS Recycling Technologies has raised €5 million to advance its DCI™ technology, aiming to convert 90% of waste into valuable resources, enhancing recycling efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Pioneering Green Innovation

DOPS Recycling Technologies, based in the Netherlands, has secured a significant investment of €5 million to advance its pioneering Direct Carbon Immobilization (DCI™) technology. This seed investment round was supported by major players, including the Energietransitiefonds Rotterdam from Innovation Quarter, ROM InWest, Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland, Init Power, CarbonFix, and Alphatron. The technology focuses on converting waste that would typically be incinerated or landfilled into new resources like syngas and carbon through an advanced process involving heating waste streams to 1,000 degrees Celsius in an oxygen-free environment [1][2].

Addressing Environmental Challenges

Annually, the Netherlands incinerates approximately eight million tonnes of waste, leading to significant CO₂ emissions and the loss of valuable materials. The DCI™ technology from DOPS promises not only to mitigate these environmental impacts but also to provide a sustainable source of biobased fuels necessary for energy-intensive industries and the decarbonization of the transport sector. The system’s use of refractory materials and efficient heat recovery further makes it economically viable at lower processing volumes [1].

Strategic Vision and Industry Impact

CEO Michiel Spits emphasizes that the innovative DCI™ technology transforms waste into valuable feedstocks, aligning with global efforts towards a circular economy. The current funding will support the development of a modular unit (M-DCI) to test the complete system, which is expected to lead to a final investment decision for establishing the first operational plant at customer sites. According to Reynier de Monchy, senior investment manager at ROM InWest, the transition to sustainable energy and a circular economy necessitates affordable green molecules, which DOPS is poised to deliver through its robust gasification technology, reducing CO₂ emissions significantly [1][2].

Future Plans and Expectations

The company, founded in 2020, plans to launch a pilot recycling program by 2026, focusing on enhancing recycling processes and addressing critical environmental challenges through green innovation. The recent cash injection is crucial for research and development, allowing DOPS to position itself at the forefront of sustainable waste management technologies and contribute substantially to the global energy transition [1][3].
