Energy Vault collaborates with ACEN Australia to construct a 400 MWh gravity and AI-based green energy storage system, marking a significant step in clean energy transition.

Innovative Energy Solutions

Energy Vault Holdings, Inc., a leader in sustainable energy storage solutions, has partnered with ACEN Australia to undertake a monumental project, deploying two battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 400 MWh in Australia. The announcement signifies a pivotal moment in the renewable energy sector, with construction expected to begin in the latter half of 2024. These systems aim to significantly reduce the region’s dependency on coal-fired power generation by efficiently dispatching stored renewable energy during peak consumption hours.

Strategic Deployment at New England Solar

The deployment of these storage systems will occur at the New England Solar project near Uralla, New South Wales. This site has already completed its first stage in 2023, generating 400 MW of solar energy. The full realization of the project will see an annual production of 1,800 GWh of renewable electricity. Energy Vault’s collaboration with ACEN Australia is part of a long-term strategy to bolster sustainable energy sources within the National Electricity Market (NEM) in Australia.

A Testament to Expertise and Demand

Energy Vault’s B-VAULT technology, coupled with Siemens S120 inverters, will be instrumental in optimizing the battery storage systems. Robert Piconi, Chairman and CEO of Energy Vault, remarked that the tight timelines and strategic approach of these deployments underscore the company’s dedication to providing reliable and effective energy storage solutions. This reflects the burgeoning demand for such technologies in the global market.

Anticipating Commercial Operations

The anticipation for commercial operations is set for 2025 and 2026, marking a new era in renewable energy storage and management. The project, supported by the NSW Government’s Emerging Energy Program, further demonstrates ACEN Australia’s commitment to developing over 1GW of renewable energy projects. This project is a critical component of the broader strategy to ensure New South Wales has a sustainable and resilient power supply.
