Impact of DCI™ Technology on Waste Management
The novel DCI™ technology developed by DOPS Recycling Technologies offers a significant improvement over traditional waste management methods. By heating waste streams in an oxygen-free reactor to 1,000 degrees Celsius, hydrocarbon-based waste materials are effectively broken down into syngas and carbon without substantial CO₂ emission. This process not only minimizes the environmental impact of waste disposal but also recycles approximately 90% of waste that would otherwise be destined for incineration or landfill [1].
Funding and Future Development Plans
The €5 million in funding was facilitated through a collaborative effort involving the Energietransitiefonds Rotterdam by Innovation Quarter, ROM InWest, Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland, and others. The resources will enable DOPS Recycling Technologies to construct a modular unit called M-DCI to further test and refine their system. This development is expected to inform a final investment decision for the first factory dedicated to commercial applications of the technology [1].
