The Hague, Monday, 19 August 2024.
The 9th International Cyber Security Summer School kicks off in The Hague, drawing 60 participants from 23 countries. This week-long event, organized by Security Delta (HSD) and partners, aims to develop future cyber talent through lectures and challenges on cutting-edge security topics.

A Collaborative Effort

The International Cyber Security Summer School (ICSSS) 2024 is a collaborative endeavor, organized by Security Delta (HSD) in partnership with several prominent organizations. Europol, the NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency, and Leiden University are just a few of the key contributors. The event harnesses the strengths of these institutions to provide a comprehensive learning experience, blending theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

Cutting-Edge Topics and Practical Challenges

Participants will delve into a range of current and emerging topics in cybersecurity. The curriculum includes cyber risk management, post-quantum cryptography, AI applications in cybersecurity, and the human factor in cyber threats. These subjects are explored through engaging lectures and hands-on challenges, allowing attendees to apply their newfound knowledge in real-world scenarios. The practical challenges are designed to simulate actual cyber threats, ensuring participants gain valuable experience that can be applied in their professional careers.

Interdisciplinary Approach

Assistant Professor Els de Busser from Leiden University highlighted the importance of an interdisciplinary approach within the cyber security domain. The diverse backgrounds of the participants, which include technology, policy, law, and business, enrich the learning environment. This diversity fosters a holistic understanding of cybersecurity issues, promoting innovative solutions that consider various perspectives and expertise areas.

Networking and Career Opportunities

Beyond the educational aspects, ICSSS 2024 offers significant networking opportunities. An HR event within the program will facilitate interactions between upcoming cyber experts and industry professionals. This event aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, providing participants with insights into career opportunities in cybersecurity. The networking sessions are crucial for building professional relationships that can lead to future collaborations and job placements.

A Strategic Initiative for National Security

The ICSSS is part of the broader National Human Capital Agenda, addressing the growing demand for cybersecurity talent. Joris den Bruinen, managing director of HSD, emphasized the importance of collaboration in realizing new solutions for a safer society. By equipping the next generation of cybersecurity experts with advanced skills and knowledge, the ICSSS aims to enhance national and international security. This initiative reflects The Hague’s commitment to being a hub for peace, justice, and security.
