2024-07-31 data

Europe, Wednesday, 31 July 2024.
The European Commission introduces a free Digital Maturity Assessment tool to help small and medium-sized enterprises evaluate their digital transformation progress. Available in 32 languages, it covers six key criteria and aims to boost digital innovation across Europe.

How the Digital Maturity Assessment Tool Works

The Digital Maturity Assessment tool, launched by the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs), is a comprehensive resource designed to evaluate the digital readiness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The tool utilizes a detailed questionnaire that assesses a company’s maturity across six key dimensions: Digital Business Strategy, Digital Readiness, Digital Skills and Empowerment, Data Management, Automation & Intelligence, and Green Digitalisation. By answering these questions, businesses can pinpoint their strengths and areas needing improvement in their digital transformation journey.

Key Benefits for SMEs

This tool offers several benefits for SMEs. Firstly, it provides a clear overview of where a company stands in terms of digital maturity, allowing business leaders to make informed decisions about their digital strategy. Secondly, it helps in identifying specific areas that require enhancement, such as improving digital skills among employees or better data management practices. Equipped with these insights, SMEs can prioritize their digital initiatives, ensuring a more structured and effective transformation process.

Support and Guidance from EDIHs

One of the significant advantages of the Digital Maturity Assessment tool is the support offered by the EDIHs. With a network of 228 hubs, including 151 funded by the Commission’s Digital Europe Programme and 77 supported by national or regional resources, EDIHs provide tailored advice and resources to SMEs based on their assessment results. This ensures that businesses are not only aware of their digital maturity but also receive the necessary guidance and support to improve their digital capabilities.

Contribution to the Digital Decade Target

The introduction of the Digital Maturity Assessment tool is also a strategic move towards achieving the European Union’s Digital Decade target. The EU aims for 75% uptake of AI, cloud, and big data by European companies by 2030. By helping SMEs assess and improve their digital maturity, this tool plays a crucial role in driving digital innovation and ensuring that businesses across Europe can leverage advanced technologies to remain competitive in a digital-first economy.

A One-Stop Shop for Digital Transformation

The EDIH network, in conjunction with the AI Office, aims to be a one-stop shop for SMEs and public services seeking digital transformation solutions. This comprehensive support system ensures that businesses can access a wealth of resources, from foundational assessments to advanced AI and data-driven solutions, all aimed at fostering a more robust and innovative digital ecosystem across Europe.
