Extended Application Period for SDE++ Subsidy Announced by RVO

The Hague, Thursday, 27 February 2025.
RVO has extended the SDE++ subsidy application period to give applicants more guidance for sustainable energy projects. This extension aims to enhance support for energy-saving initiatives.
Extended Timeline and Increased Budget
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has announced that the SDE++ subsidy application window will now run from October 7 to November 6, 2025 [1]. This extension represents a significant shift in the application timeline to provide businesses with additional preparation time. The program comes with substantial financial backing, with €750 million allocated separately for three key technological areas: low-temperature heat, high-temperature heat, and molecular solutions including green gas and hydrogen [2].
Enhanced Support for Sustainable Projects
The program specifically targets businesses and non-profit organizations implementing large-scale renewable energy projects or CO2 reduction initiatives [2]. To improve application quality and success rates, RVO is introducing enhanced guidance measures, including preliminary consultations with RVO advisors before submission [1]. Eligible projects must demonstrate clear environmental benefits and meet specific technical requirements under the new 2025 guidelines [3].
Sector-Specific Opportunities
The expanded program offers particular relevance for greenhouse horticulture businesses, with application opportunities for sustainable energy production starting in September 2025 [4]. Additionally, businesses investing in environmental technologies can combine this with other sustainability incentives, such as the MIA and Vamil tax benefits, which offer up to 45% deduction on qualifying investments [5].
Compliance and Reporting Requirements
Under the new energy savings regulations implemented on February 18, 2025, businesses consuming over 50,000 kWh of electricity or 25,000 m³ of natural gas equivalent must implement energy-saving measures with a five-year payback period [6]. Companies are required to report their energy-saving measures through RVO’s eLoket system by December 1, 2027 [6].
