DOPS Recycling Technologies Secures €5 Million for Waste Processing Innovation

Haarlem, Wednesday, 1 October 2025.
DOPS Recycling Technologies received a €5 million investment to advance eco-friendly waste processing tech, highlighting the collaborative North Holland ecosystem’s role in sustainable innovation.
Strategic Investment for Technological Advancement
This spring, DOPS Recycling Technologies, located in North Holland, Netherlands, secured a €5 million investment from ROM InWest, InnovationQuarter, and other private partners. This substantial funding is earmarked for advancing DOPS’s innovative technologies in waste processing, which utilize Direct Carbon Immobilization (DCI) technology to convert challenging waste into reusable products like synthetic gas and activated carbon, significantly reducing CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods [1][2].
The Role of the North Holland Ecosystem
The investment underscores the significance of a supportive ecosystem in North Holland, which has been instrumental in facilitating sustainable innovation. This collaborative environment has enabled DOPS to transition its technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 to TRL 7-8, paving the way for a first demonstration plant. The plant aims to replace natural gas with syngas from waste streams, an attractive solution given the grid congestion issues in many parts of the Netherlands [1].
Leadership and Vision
Michiel Spits, CEO of DOPS, co-founded the company in 2021 with a vision to address multiple societal challenges such as waste processing and sustainable energy through their innovative solutions. The company has already conducted successful pilot tests in Alkmaar, proving the efficacy of their technology. DOPS’s modular design allows them to process different waste streams per reactor, which offers flexibility and scalability necessary for expanding into new markets beyond the Netherlands [2].
Future Prospects and Expansion Plans
DOPS aims to extend its reach beyond the Netherlands into Europe, the Middle East, and Asia over the next five years. The focus remains on improving technology and forming strategic partnerships to strengthen their market position. The investment not only accelerates their current projects but also sets the stage for DOPS to significantly impact the global waste management industry by promoting a circular economy [2].
