Tokyo, Tuesday, 27 August 2024.
Singtel and Hitachi have signed an MoU to develop next-generation data centers and GPU Cloud services. This partnership aims to accelerate business digital transformation through AI applications, combining Singtel’s expertise in data centers and connectivity with Hitachi’s integration capabilities.

Strategic Partnership Overview

Singtel and Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the advancement of next-generation data centers and GPU Cloud services. The agreement, signed on 26 August 2024, aims to leverage the combined strengths of Singtel’s data center and connectivity expertise with Hitachi’s technological prowess to foster digital transformation through artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This partnership is expected to significantly enhance the performance and capabilities of data centers, particularly in Japan and potentially across the Asia-Pacific region.

Innovative Solutions and Technologies

The collaboration between Singtel and Hitachi will focus on integrating a range of innovative solutions, including green electricity, advanced cooling systems, storage infrastructure, and comprehensive data management. These enhancements are designed to make data centers more efficient and sustainable. Furthermore, the partnership will explore the utilization of Singtel’s GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) for Hitachi’s internal AI applications and workloads. This initiative will enable Hitachi to validate the benefits of Singtel’s GPUaaS in enhancing its digital technologies and solutions, such as high-performance machine learning and generative AI.

Driving Digital Transformation

The strategic partnership is poised to drive significant digital transformation for enterprises by providing advanced AI applications and cloud services. Bill Chang, Chief Executive of Singtel’s Digital InfraCo unit, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in expanding their reach within the Japanese market and beyond. He emphasized the potential of combining Singtel’s digital assets and solutions with Hitachi’s technological capabilities to help businesses innovate and transform their operations. This partnership also aligns with the growing demand for AI computing, as seen with Singtel’s recent collaboration with Bridge Alliance, which includes early adopters like AIS in Thailand and Maxis in Malaysia.

Sustainability Goals and Future Prospects

A critical aspect of the Singtel-Hitachi partnership is its focus on sustainability. The companies aim to develop more power-efficient methodologies that align with enterprise sustainability goals. The results from Hitachi’s internal verification of Singtel’s GPUaaS will not only enhance AI applications but also pave the way for co-creating enterprise-grade solutions. These efforts are expected to lead to sustainable improvements in data center performance, thereby supporting the broader objective of achieving digital and environmental sustainability.
