28 Green Projects in North Holland Secured €45,000 Funding

North Holland, Tuesday, 15 April 2025.
Twenty-eight volunteer projects focusing on nature and biodiversity in North Holland will receive a €45,000 boost from the Betrekken bij Groen Fonds, supporting ecological innovation.
Project Selection and Funding Distribution
The initiative garnered significant interest, with 58 project proposals submitted for consideration, totaling more than €150,000 in requested funding [1]. From these applications, 28 projects were selected to receive support, demonstrating the region’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship. The financial backing comes from the provincial government through the Betrekken bij Groen Fonds, marking a significant investment in local ecological initiatives [1].
Biodiversity Enhancement Projects
Among the notable projects receiving funding is an innovative initiative to create new nesting locations for kingfishers. Volunteers will construct specialized walls at multiple locations, including De Groene Hakkelaar in Amsterdam and the Kalverpolder in Zaandam, designed to provide optimal breeding conditions for these distinctive blue birds [1]. Additionally, the Church Owl Working Group will invest in new fall protection systems across five regions, enabling volunteers to safely maintain and monitor nest boxes for nocturnal predators [1].
Educational Innovation
The funding also supports educational initiatives, with the Heimanshof heemtuin in Hoofddorp receiving support to enhance its information provision systems. This investment will enable volunteers to better educate visitors about local landscapes, natural elements, and species, making environmental education more accessible at this popular destination [1]. These educational efforts align with North Holland’s broader mission to make nature areas more accessible while strengthening recreational opportunities and promoting biodiversity [7].
