ROM InWest's €5 Million Boost to DOPS Sparks Innovation in Waste Management

Amsterdam, Sunday, 22 June 2025.
ROM InWest’s investment empowers DOPS Recycling Technologies to progress its innovative waste processing solutions, emphasizing the critical role of North Holland’s ecosystem in fostering such advancements.
Empowering Waste Processing Through Investment
In the spring of 2025, ROM InWest, alongside InnovationQuarter and private partners, invested €5 million in DOPS Recycling Technologies. This firm, based in North Holland, has been making significant strides in waste processing technologies. The financial infusion propels DOPS into the next operational phase, allowing it to further develop its Direct Carbon Immobilization (DCI) technology, which transforms hard-to-process waste into reusable products like syngas and active carbon with significantly lower CO2 emissions [1].
The Role of Technological Ecosystems
The success of DOPS Recycling Technologies is closely linked to the robust ecosystem in North Holland, which has been crucial in offering continued support. This ecosystem includes key players such as the North Holland North Development Company and the GO!-NH Accelerator Program that, along with early proof-of-concept financial aid of €350,000 in 2021, have been instrumental in nurturing DOPS’s growth [1].
A Step Towards Sustainable Solutions
Reynier de Monchy, an investment manager at ROM InWest, highlights the multifaceted impact of DOPS’s technology on social challenges, including waste management and sustainable energy. The €5 million investment will enable DOPS to escalate its technology from TRL 6 to TRL 7-8, entailing more extensive validation, efficiency assessments, and preparation for its first commercial plant [1].
Eco-Innovation and Future Prospects
Looking ahead, DOPS aims to establish its first demonstration plant at an industrial partner site, such as a brickworks or waste processor. This venture aligns with efforts to identify natural gas alternatives, leveraging energy created from waste streams to counteract grid congestion issues prevalent in many Dutch regions [1].
