Ivy Medical, another key player from the Northern Netherlands, has developed the Ivy Duo+, a next-generation portable infusion pump. This device aims to address the challenges of limited mobility for patients and the high workload of nurses. The Ivy Duo+ allows clinical infusion therapy to be administered from a backpack or shoulder bag, significantly reducing alarm frequency through automatic venting and automating time-consuming workflows. Ivy Medical’s mission is encapsulated in their slogan, ‘more steps for patients, less sprints for nurses,’ highlighting their commitment to improving patient care and nurse efficiency.
The Selection Process and Awards
The selection process for the Life Science Innovation Award involved a thorough evaluation of nominations submitted by 8 July 2024. A five-member board from the LIFE Cooperative selected the finalists based on criteria such as origin, potential impact, and societal relevance. The jury, comprising representatives from NV NOM, the municipality of Groningen, and Health~Holland, will award the winner with a trophy and a €5,000 cheque. According to Peter Ketelaar, Director of LIFE Cooperative, ‘Visible impact and regional innovations were this year’s keywords… all three finalists scored high on origin, potential impact, and societal relevance.’
