Ekoplaza Adopts Digital Labels to Boost Sustainability

Den Bosch, Friday, 7 March 2025.
Ekoplaza, a Dutch organic supermarket, partners with VusionGroup to implement smart electronic shelf labels, enhancing store efficiency, customer experience, and supporting sustainability initiatives.
Digital Transformation Journey
Following a successful pilot installation in Den Bosch during July 2024, Ekoplaza is now expanding VusionGroup’s innovative electronic shelf label (ESL) technology across its network of stores [1]. The initiative leverages VusionGroup’s multicolour smart ESLs and VusionCloud platform, technologies developed by the French-based company that currently serves over 350 large retailer groups worldwide [2].
Sustainable Technology Integration
The implementation demonstrates a significant commitment to environmental responsibility, incorporating recycled plastic in the ESLs and their fixtures, while utilizing sustainable cloud hosting through Microsoft [1]. Luc Heijl, Omnichannel Manager at Ekoplaza, emphasizes that this technology aligns with their core values: ‘We are committed to ensuring efficient and effective processes that align with our dedication to quality and sustainability’ [1]. The integration with Cisco Meraki’s Wi-Fi infrastructure will reduce both implementation costs and carbon footprint [1].
Operational Excellence and Future Plans
The VusionCloud platform enables remote management of price updates and inventory tracking, with automated out-of-stock notifications to improve customer service [1]. Looking ahead, Ekoplaza plans to explore additional features such as pick-to-light technology to enhance in-store e-commerce order preparation [1]. This technological advancement represents part of VusionGroup’s broader mission to enable sustainable and human-centered commerce across Europe, Asia, and North America [2].
