Eindhoven, Friday, 5 July 2024.
Eindhoven-based startup Incooling clinches KPMG’s Dutch Tech Innovator 2024 competition with its revolutionary server cooling system. The technology, aimed at reducing data center energy consumption worldwide, impressed judges with its potential for global impact. Incooling will now represent the Netherlands at the KPMG Global Tech Innovator finals in Lisbon this November.

Revolutionizing Data Center Cooling

Incooling’s groundbreaking technology centers around a two-phase cooling system designed specifically for data centers. This innovative solution addresses the massive energy consumption typically associated with these facilities. By leveraging phase change cooling technology, Incooling’s system removes heat directly at the source, resulting in both maximum server performance and reduced energy use.

Collaborations and Support

The startup has garnered significant industry support, collaborating with semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML and technical service provider Spie. These partnerships have been instrumental in refining Incooling’s technology. Moreover, Incooling received early-stage support from the Eindhoven Start-up Alliance, with backing from ASML and Philips through the HightechXL deep tech venture building program.

From CERN to Global Data Centers

Interestingly, Incooling initially developed its cooling technology for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This high-performance cooling solution has since been adapted for use in data centers, making it well-suited for demanding applications such as artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The inclusion of AI-based control systems further enhances the system’s efficiency and adaptability.

Recognition and Future Prospects

The Dutch Tech Innovator competition, part of the KPMG Global Tech Innovator series, recognizes and supports the world’s most promising startups. Incooling’s victory in the Dutch edition not only highlights the innovative power of their solution but also secures them a place in the global finals in Lisbon on November 13, 2024. CEO and co-founder Rudie Verweij expressed immense pride in the level of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Netherlands, stating, ‘Seeing so much innovation and entrepreneurship makes me very proud of the Netherlands.’

Global Impact and Future Plans

The jury, led by Izzy Sayers from KPMG Netherlands, was particularly impressed by Incooling’s visionary approach and potential for a lasting, positive impact on the world. As the winner of the Dutch Tech Innovator competition, Incooling will participate in the global finale during the Web Summit conference in Lisbon. This event will provide the startup with further opportunities for coaching, media exposure, and networking, paving the way for future growth and innovation.
