EU's AI Act Takes Effect: A Global First in AI Regulation

The European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act, the world’s first comprehensive AI regulation, has come into force. This landmark legislation aims to ensure ethical AI use, protect user data, and establish a harmonized AI market across the EU.
A Comprehensive Framework
The AI Act, officially enforced on 1 August 2024, represents a significant milestone in global AI policy. It was proposed by the European Commission on 21 April 2021, passed by the European Parliament on 13 March 2024, and approved by the EU Council on 21 May 2024[1].
